BESPOKE LUXURY HOME GYM
Your own gym, in the garden or at home
A luxury home gym gives you what no gym membership can: peace, privacy and a space that feels entirely your own.
At Dutch Luxury Garden Concepts, we design and build bespoke home gyms, as a unit in your garden or within a room in your home. Whether you live in the Netherlands, Spain, France or elsewhere, we’ll take the time to look at what’s possible for your location.
Some people simply want a place to train; others like to step into the sauna afterwards. That’s why we always start with you: how do you train, when, and what do you need to look forward to every session?
Why a private gym at home?
For most people, it starts with time. Driving to the gym, waiting for a rack to free up, training among strangers: it all adds up. With a gym of your own, you get that time back, whether you train at six in the morning or late in the evening.
Privacy. No crowds, no queues, just your own music. Ideal, too, if you work with a personal trainer at home.
Train more often. The easier it is to start, the more often you’ll go, and that shows in your results.
Your own equipment. Everything you need for the way you train, and nothing you don’t. Whether that’s a rack of dumbbells, a treadmill or a cable machine.
For the whole family. Everyone trains in their own time, in a space you’ll use every day.
Time. No commute, no opening hours. Suddenly, a workout fits into even the busiest day.
A garden gym unit
A gym unit stands apart from your home, and that’s exactly its strength. You walk through the garden, close the door and the time is all yours. Turn the music up, drop the weights, and no one in the house is disturbed.
Most garden rooms are made of timber. We build every gym unit on a brand-new shipping container.
Less damp. Thanks to the insulation, there’s less damp than in a typical garden room. Better for you and for your equipment.
Strong and secure. We reinforce the steel where needed, so you can hang a punchbag from the ceiling or fix a rack to the wall.
Built for the elements. A shipping container is designed for harsh conditions and lasts for decades.
Installed in half a day. We build your gym in our workshop in the Netherlands and install it on site in around half a day. No months of building work at home.
Flexible foundations. With ground screw foundations, you can move the unit later on, or even take it with you to a new home.
Entirely your style. From a bold container look to a finish that matches your home perfectly: you decide how it looks, inside and out.
Why a shipping container as the base?
What we take into account
The location. Privacy, daylight and the route from the house, and in warmer climates, shade. Training with a view of your garden feels very different from a corner behind the shed.
The size. For yoga, mobility work or an exercise bike, a 10ft unit is often enough. If you want a rack and bench as well as cardio, you’ll be looking at 20ft or larger.
The height. A standard unit is 2.59 metres high. If you do pull-ups or overhead presses, the high cube version at 2.89 metres gives you that extra headroom.
Utilities. You’ll always need electricity. For a shower, toilet or washbasin, water and drainage come into play too. We plan for this from the very first design.
Finished down to the last detail
A gym unit isn’t a garden shed with a few machines inside; it’s a fully fledged building. Insulation, climate control, electrics and a proper sports floor form the foundation. The rest is up to you.
Sliding doors onto the garden or more privacy, a shower, toilet or kitchenette: we think it through with you and plan everything in advance, right down to the drainage. That way, your gym is just as comfortable as the rest of your home.
The look is yours to choose, too. Match the façade to your house so the unit feels like a natural part of it. Or go for something deliberately different: a bold container look, a sleek black façade or timber that blends into the greenery. Inside and out, we finish everything to the standard of a home.
A gym inside your home
Have a spare room, or a basement or garage you hardly use? We’ll turn it into a gym, finished to the same standard as the rest of your home. An indoor home gym does call for a few decisions up front:
Weight and flooring. A rack of dumbbells can easily weigh several hundred kilos. On the ground floor or in a basement, that’s no problem; on an upper floor, we’ll have the load-bearing capacity checked first.
Noise and vibration. Dropped weights and a treadmill can be heard throughout the house. With the right sports floor and construction, it stays quiet for the rest of the family.
Ventilation and climate control. A room quickly gets warm and humid during a workout, and basements often are already. That’s why good ventilation or air conditioning is simply part of the plan.
Ceiling height and layout. Lofts and basements are often lower than you’d think. We check in advance whether there’s room for overhead training, and where each machine works best.
Already working with an interior designer or architect? We’re happy to coordinate the design with them, so everything comes together as one.
Train and recover under one roof
Anyone who trains seriously knows that recovery matters just as much as the workout itself. That’s why many clients combine their gym with wellness: into the sauna after training, then cooling off under an outdoor shower or in an ice bath.
We can create one continuous space within a single unit, or connect a gym unit to a wellness unit. That way, you move from training to recovery without having to go through the house. For more ideas, take a look at Indoor Wellness and our wellness units.
